Compliance Portal – an important building block for information security

Stockholm County Council's auditors have concluded in a new report that the introduction of compliance procedures and associated IT support, using the Compliance Portal, should be given top priority to accelerate the county council's information security efforts. The Portal has been developed by IT consultant Cybercom and enables businesses to review their compliance, and to identify risks and actions.

“This validates how well the tool works. It is a flexible platform that facilitates the monitoring and evaluation of the county council's regulatory and compliance requirements in areas such as information security,” says Bo Strömqvist, Head of Secure Connectivity at Cybercom.

The report highlights the Compliance Portal as an essential building block of the county council's information security management system. The tool supports information security monitoring by the operations.

“Stockholm County Council is a leading example of an organisation making a serious effort to strengthen its information security management system. This sends a strong signal to other counties that the compliance process is a success factor in systematic information security efforts. The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency’s requirement for government authorities to report IT incidents comes into force soon. GRC tools will become increasingly important,” says Mikael Sundberg, a client account manager at Cybercom.

The report shows that the Karolinska University Hospital is already working with the Compliance Portal and has joined the county council’s pilot project to introduce the compliance process at multiple organisational levels. The hospital stresses several benefits of the tool, including the capacity for systematic monitoring of information security and the ability to generate action plans based on the tool's risk analysis. The Stockholm South General Hospital will also start using the Compliance Portal this year for information security at a local level, and Stockholm’s county council healthcare district (SLSO) is seeking a suitable area of activity that, like Karolinska, can join a compliance process pilot project.
