Increased SKF portal performance worldwide through a solution provided by Cybercom

SKF improved its Web sites’ response time worldwide by an average of 300% – thanks to an integrated Akamai technology solution offered by Cybercom. The company recently signed a three-year contract with Cybercom for continued partnership. SKF is a global supplier of products, solutions, and services in rolling bearings, seals, and related businesses.

SKF has customers worldwide. Consequently, its Web portal is one of its key marketing channels with more than 100 local Web sites. Speed and the portal’s 24/7 performance and availability are critical success factors. During phase 1 implementation, about 30 Web sites were integrated into the new solution.

“Performance improvements in Asia – an important growth market – quadrupled,” says Richard Olivecrona, director of SKF’s Internet and intranet management unit. “Using the Akamai technology that Cybercom offers, response times were drastically lowered.”

“Cybercom offers its partner’s – Akamai’s – integrated solution, which provides the world’s largest network platform for Web content delivery,” says Per Ankarås, key account manager at Cybercom. “That way, SKF’s Web capacity increases when needed, and the company gets performance checking of its Web sites worldwide. SKF doesn’t have to expand its infrastructure on its own and unnecessarily.”
