It is time again to shake off the dust and get out into the wild to see what has changed in the industry. Last year was our first time visiting the Hannover Messe, which is one of the largest trade fairs in the world with typically over a quarter of a million visitors and 6500 exhibitors. For us, it is an opportunity to gain an understanding of the state of technology in the industrial sector.
Last year there was a clear focus on the Internet of Things related topics: predictive maintenance, digital twins and IoT in general. This year the focus, based on the themes and event program, seems to be on the evolution of last year trends: artificial intelligence, security, and platform economics, together with 5G. It will be interesting to compare last years’ experience to this and hopefully see how these trends have grown to something more substantial.
Realizing the AI
Especially interesting for us this time is to pay even more attention to what has been done under AI. Last year has been an AI-focused year for us, us ramping up our data science division with multiple new hires, our involvement in the national Aurora AI development project and multiple smaller analytics projects. In that regard it is going to be very interesting to see many of the similarities there might be between what others have developed, the issues they’ve faced and the problems that still need solving.
Getting lay of the land
We will be following similar itinerary as last year, touring the fairgrounds, listening to talks and most of all talking to the “locals”. A unique opportunity to talk to so many people, deeply invested in solving specific challenges, some similar to what we’ve had. It really just is a learning experience that we’ve noticed really pays dividends throughout the rest of the year until next the event again.
PM us on social media
We will be active on social media, reporting some of the most interesting technology we see for 3 days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If you have any questions regarding the event, things in there or just want to chat, send us a PM on Twitter @cybercomfinland.
