AWS re:Invent 2017 is over for now and our team of Makers will travel back to Finland and Sweden. The event itself has become somewhat of a yearly tradition for us in Cybercom and just like last year, this year’s event has not left us cold.
The past week has included great energy, inspiring moments of learning, deep diving into the latest trends of cloud computing and of course time with our superb customers. Altogether, the grandiose event gathered over 40,000 cloud experts to learn, network and change knowledge about modern cloud services and technologies.
In its usual way, AWS rewarded us attendees with exciting announcements from the very beginning of the event, which for Makers like us, are like opening Christmas presents on Christmas Eve. Our Chief Cloud Technologist Rolf Koski wrote some expectations and some predictions before the event which actually suits really well. :)
The most interesting announcement on Monday was a suite of five cloud-based video processing tools for building, servicing and monetizing video streams.
The suite included the following tools: AWS Elemental MediaConvert, AWS Elemental MediaPackage, AWS Elemental MediaStore, AWS Elemental MediaLive and AWS Elemental MediaTailor.
Those are really interesting new services for our Media clients, for sure.
On Tuesday we joined to the AWS Partner Summit where Terry Wise underlined how important the partner ecosystem is for AWS customers. Great number of new partners have joined into the APN network during 2017 with growing number of certified architects.
The AWS Marketplace has also grown to huge with thousands of 3rd party products and services available.
In the evening our team get entertained together with many of our clients in the NHL hockey game: Las Vegas Golden Nights vs. Dallas Stars. The game itself was a bit boring for Finnish and Swedish hockey fans but the show was great with full house of people!
Wednesday began with the keynote by Andy Jassy. He did so many new announcements during the session. Our team get seated right into the first row!
Most of the new announcements were around compute, database, machine learning, AI and IoT. AWS announced many nice upgrades especially in the area of databases because the Data is still all it matters in the end of the day.
Thursday began with the keynote by Werner Vogels. He went through many different topics like how app development will change in the future, security in the cloud, serverless infrastructure, IoT and streaming data with analytics. There were not many new feature announcements in the session but he basically walks through the wide AWS platform by using different use cases with customers’ success stories.
The main take away for me was that automate everything as much as you can and developers are new security professionals.
Even the week was long it ended up with the massive AWS re:Play party. People still had good energy in the many cool activities with food, drinks and AWS friends from all over the world.
All in all, I must say that we truly have enjoyed our time in AWS re:Invent 2017. Innovative products and services, great energy and talented, like-minded people driven by a passion towards a great platform.
Thank you re:Invent 2017, the Makers of tomorrow will be back!
