Broadband for everyone

Telecom management and networks constitute one of Cybercom’s focus areas for which we offer various expert solutions.

Our highly renowned consultants deliver world-class telecom services. And they use cutting-edge technologies to develop our national and international customers’ business operations.

The Jönköping municipality and Teracom (Sweden's largest radio and TV operator) are running a comprehensive broadband project where they will be able to offer broadband to 98% of the municipality’s residents.

Anders Järnemar and Johan Bäck, of Cybercom Netcom Consultants, are executive project managers. Right now, they’re experiencing some fast-paced days during the run-up to 16 December when the first nine nodes will be introduced. Before the project ends in the summer, 43 nodes will be launched to cover the entire installation.

Järnemar is a very experienced broadband builder: “This is my fourth municipal project as a Teracom consultant. I started in August 2003 as head project manager for the Älmhult municipality project. Then I worked in Jämtland, with six municipalities and nearly 200 nodes. After that, I went to the Motala municipality, which has 13 nodes. And now, I’m in Jönköping, with 43 nodes.”

As an executive project manager, Järnemar is responsible for schedules, budgets, and results that cover many subprojects, which include technology and network design, network construction, marketing and sales, plus operations and maintenance.

“The Jönköping project is exciting because it mainly consists of fibre nodes and very few radio nodes,” says Järnemar. “So for the entire municipality, we only have to set up seven masts for radio equipment.

New masts are always a problem because residents erroneously associate our masts with radiation and 3G masts. The masts that we build don’t emit ground radiation, but that doesn’t help when land contracts and building permits must be granted. Opinion always flares against these masts, so it’s a big advantage to require so few.”

Bäck is responsible for network construction, so he must acquire building permits and land contracts for masts and the huts and cabinets that house the technologies.

With NCC (a Nordic construction and property development group) and Netel (a subsidiary of Peab, which is a Nordic construction and civil engineering group), Bäck is charged with ensuring that schedules are met and quality is assured.

The project also depends on Telia (a Nordic telecom company) and Jönköping Energi (a power company). Telia delivers copper; Jönköping Energi delivers fibre. Here, Bäck’s role is to co-ordinate and keep things together.

Teracom runs the broadband network in the Jönköping municipality and gives residents opportunities to use several of the various operators that offer network subscriptions and services. That way, there’s competition, which keeps prices down and enables a comprehensive offering of various services. Those who want broadband select their own operator within the network for the services they wish to subscribe to.
